THAI GIRLS IN SEx tRADE NEED RESCuE
Re: “A ‘war with water and time,’” July 10.
As with the rest of the world, I celebrate the safe rescue of the 12 Thai boys and their coach from the cave they were trapped in.
However, I can’t help thinking about the tens of thousands (probably hundreds of thousands) of girls in Thailand who are trapped in sex trafficking, and comparing the amount of local and international attention and efforts rallied to save these young men, compared to the local and international attention and efforts being rallied to rescue all these Thai girls.
This has been an ongoing and increasing tragedy for decades, which continues to perpetuate trauma, abuse, and worse, for countless numbers of Thai girls.
Imagine what could be accomplished if the Thai government enlisted the army to rescue these girls; if there were at least two individuals to guide each girl through the labyrinth of sex trafficking entanglement to safety; if there were international media putting a daily spotlight on their plight and providing updates on the progress of their rescue.
