‘POTHOLE MAN’ SPRAY-PAINTS WORST OFFENDERS
For years, drivers along Newfoundland’s Road to the Isles thought the orange circles around the notorious potholes were from the Department of Transportation. The spraypainted markings were actually the work of Ernest Barnes, the “Pothole Man.” Barnes, 70, has been hitting the highways along the north coast for hours every day for years, looking for potholes to paint. He says this year’s crop is large — he’s emptied about two dozen cans of paint, and he’s cleared the local hardware store of its stock.
