GUERRERO CLOSE TO PROMOTION

- Rob Longley

As he finishes his recovery from a knee injury, top Blue Jays prospect Vladimir Guerrero Jr. appears to be a step closer to Toronto. According to sources, team management is planning for triple-A Buffalo to be Guerrero’s next stop as he continues the climb up baseball’s development ladder. Guerrero, who is almost completely recovered from a strained patella tendon, has been rehabbing in Florida and has upped his workload in the last couple weeks. Before his injury, Guerrero was tearing up the double-A Eastern League, hitting .407 in 53 games with 11 home runs and 55 RBIs. The pending move to Buffalo, N.Y., would make it far easier for Jays fans in southern Ontario to see the 19-year-old star in action at the Bisons’ minor-league ballpark. The only factor that would delay the promotion is if the team feels Guerrero needs to play himself into game shape at a lower level.
