Sask. speeders hit with huge tickets

- DAVE DEIBERT

SASKATOON A driver headed to Saskatchewan’s biggest country music festival was issued a $1,044 ticket after Saskatoon police clocked the vehicle at more than 180 km/ h.

According to the Saskatoon police traffic unit on its verified Twitter account, a driver “trying to get to Craven in a hurry” was caught on radar driving 182 km/ h on Highway 11.

The Country Thunder music jamboree was held in Craven from Thursday through Sunday.

“What are you willing to risk other people’s lives for? Or your own? This simply makes zero sense,” the SPS traffic unit tweeted.

The driver’s vehicle was automatically impounded for a minimum of seven days because the driver exceeded the speed limit by more than 50 km/ h.

The ticket was one of several issued on the weekend to excessive speeders across the province, according to the SPS traffic unit.

On Highway 11 near Dundurn, where the speed limit is 110 km/ h, the combined traffic unit clocked a pair of motorcyclists at more than 180 km/ h.

Each was issued a $1,022 ticket and their bikes were impounded, according to Saskatoon police.

The Regina city police traffic unit clocked a driver travelling 115 km/h in the 50 km/h zone in the 900 block of Assiniboine Avenue East.

The vehicle was impounded and the driver was issued a $966 ticket.
