UPSCALE HOMES DESIGNED FOR THE GROWING FAMILY

Light and airy Hennessey III offers four bedrooms and plenty of places to gather

- JOSH SKAPIN

When designing a home for large families, having enough bedrooms is only part of the equation.

As Calbridge Homes presents in its upscale Hennessey III model, now displayed as a show home in Rock Vale Green, a well-populated household benefits from a broader set of considerations.

Calbridge was crowned Builder of the Year at the BILD (Building Industry and Land Development) Awards announced earlier in 2018.

The Hennessey III is 2,704 square feet with four bedrooms, 2.5 bathrooms, and a front-attached triple car garage. A fifth bedroom can be added by developing the lower level.

One of the strengths of the floor plan is its dispersion of square footage.

As any growing family knows, along with having the necessary number of bedrooms, it’s important that there are spaces that can be grown into.

Along with the grand master bedroom are three generously sized secondary bedrooms, each measuring about 10-by-11-feet. One of the children’s bedrooms — which feature windows on both the front and a side wall — has a walk-in closet.

A layer of privacy is also part of the second level design.

The door to the master bedroom doesn’t immediately step into the sleep space. Instead, there’s a short entranceway that’s flanked by the ensuite and spacious walkin closet.

In fact, the closet is large enough that it could be used as a dressing room. Pulling this space away from the area where the bed is located lets one half of a couple get ready for their day before the other without being a disturbance.

In the ensuite, things are sunny and spa-like. It boasts a large tiled shower with a glass door across from dual vanities — with considerable counter space — beneath a full-width mirror. The focal point, however, is the chic free-standing tub backlit by a window.

Natural light is a common thread in the home, including a striking skylight overlooking the second floor hallway.

Gathering spaces, ideal for families to reconnect at the end of a work and school day, are also a focus. On the second level, there’s a front-facing bonus room featuring a cosy sunken concept.

On the main level, the 15-by14-foot great room with a stylish ceiling and soaring windows that provide plenty of natural light for family time and entertaining visitors alike.

Large families will value its expansive L-shaped central kitchen. Around the island — which has a sink and extended eating bar that shows seating for three people — there’s substantial space for people to stand and socialize or circulate.

The kitchen features a high volume of cabinets, full-height backsplash, and stainless steel appliances, including a chimney-style hood fan. The kitchen extends to a space with an additional counter with cabinets that could be used for meal preparation or as a place for dropping mail and organizing household documents. This area then accesses a spacious pantry.

Across from the kitchen is a handy den. While full of potential, families may choose to use it as a home office or children’s play room.

While often an understated part of home design, the space where you enter a home shouldn’t be overlooked. This is particularly true in larger households where more people may be coming through the door and removing shoes and jackets at the same time.

In the Hennessey III, both the front foyer and mud room that connects to the garage accomplish just that.

Rocky Vale Green is a boutique development by La Vita Land located within Rocky Ridge, an established community bordered by 12 Mile Coulee and Country Hills Boulevard.

Situated close to established commercial hubs in Rocky Ridge and nearby Royal Oak, this location puts residents within walking distance of the new Shane Homes YMCA at Rocky Ridge — the largest YMCA in the world — which opened in January.
