SON CHARGED IN TRIPLE MURDER
Parents, girlfriend slain in homes
Calgary police have laid three charges of second-degree murder in relation to the discovery of three bodies on Tuesday.
Dustin Duthie, 25, is accused of the killings after the bodies were found at two separate addresses in different Calgary neighbourhoods Tuesday morning.
Sources confirmed the victims to be Duthie’s girlfriend, Taylor Toller, his mother, Shawn Boshuck, and his stepfather, Alan Pennylegion .
About 11 a.m. Tuesday, police found Toller dead at a residence
Later, police found the bodies of Pennylegion and Boshuck at a home in the 10100 block of Hidden Valley Drive N.W. Police say they were killed July 31.
Duthie was taken into custody at the Applewood scene and is now being held under suicide watch at Rockyview General Hospital.
Duthie’s case was called before a justice of the peace Wednesday morning, but he was unable to appear.
Both Crown prosecutor Brandy O’Ferrall and duty counsel Ben Leung explained he was under psychiatric care at the hospital.
“Mr. Duthie has been transported to Rockyview Hospital,” Leung told justice of the peace Deborah Hanly. “He is currently in the mentalhealth ward under a preventive suicide watch.”
Leung asked that Duthie’s case be adjourned to next Wednesday so the accused can seek a court psychiatrist to determine if he needs a 30-day mental health assessment. “I do have concerns that fitness may be an issue,” Leung said. Calgary now has 10 homicides this year.
