SAIT Trojans rebranded with new logo

-

The SAIT Trojans are marching into the future with a new look.

On Wednesday, the Calgary school revealed a new athletics brand for Alberta Colleges Athletic Conference action.

It’s the familiar sight of the old red plumed helmet, which is synonymous with Trojans pride, with a twist.

The new logo marks commitment to student success both in the classroom and on the field, say SAIT supporters.

Staff and students gathered at the post-secondary campus for a sneak peek at the athletic rebrand, which aims to stay true to the school’s warrior roots.

“The warrior is key to who we are as Trojans — it’s a mentality, a part of us,” said Wade Kolmel, SAIT director of athletics and recreation.

The evolution of the Trojans identity is the next step in bringing SAIT Athletics and Recreation into the school’s new century. It also completes SAIT’s brand evolution which began with the unveiling of its new logo in 2016. To create the new SAIT Trojans brand, in the true spirit of teamwork, a crosssection of SAIT students, employees and alumni were consulted.

The first official documented appearance of an SAIT Trojan was in 1962 when the SAIT hockey team adopted the name. At that time, the institution’s athletic colours were green and gold, but there was yet to be a logo created. By 1964, the first iteration of the Trojans warrior head made its debut — just in time for the school’s participation in the inaugural ACAC.

“Our history runs deep in this province and in our institution,” Kolmel said. “Our fresh brand identity is a confirmation of what it is to be a warrior, a teammate ... We want that pride to run through campus when you see the new logo.

“We are all Trojans.”
