MAHOGANY OFFERS AMENITIES GALORE

With nearby lake and beaches, community is ‘where we want to be,’ says Stevens family

Some nights, it can take an hour or so for Brent and Rachel Stevens to get their three kids, aged eight and under, to settle down and go to sleep.

“It’s definitely busy,” Brent said, wearily.

Since moving into their new spacious home in Mahogany, the couple is thankful that each child has their own room.

When the “one more story please” or “I need a drink” bedtime routine is underway, Brent and Rachel patiently wait in the upstairs bonus room, watching TV until the coast is clear.

Like many young families, the Stevens feel right at home in Mahogany, an award-winning, amenity-rich lake community in southeast Calgary developed by Hopewell Residential.

We found a good lot just two blocks from the lake and we built it from scratch. It took about eight months ... we took possession in June.

Originally from Lethbridge, a career-advancement move took them to California, where Brent also obtained his MBA. When he was ready to start his own business, Smart Haven Security, the family moved to Calgary.

“When we moved back from California, Mahogany was just getting going and we really liked it. We decided to rent for a year to see if it was something we wanted to do. We love the community — Mahogany is awesome — so we decided to pull the trigger and build a house,” Brent said.

He and Rachel toured many show homes, but jumped at the chance to purchase the 2,491-square-foot, two-storey Elan front drive garage model, also built by Hopewell. The Elan offered the family of five the best floor plan for their budget.

“We found a good lot just two blocks from the lake and we built it from scratch. It took about eight months start to finish and we took possession in June,” Brent said.

The open-concept main floor includes office space and the basement has been fully developed with a fifth bedroom, full bath, wet bar, home theatre and a large storage area. When it came to school, the Stevens looked for an alternative to the designated school for Mahogany and found a desirable option just down the road in the Rocky View School Division.

“Riverbend is our designated school, but we found the elementary school in Indus was a lot closer with good, quality education,” Brent said.

The Stevens weren’t alone in their love of this particular home style, priced from the high $500,000s. Hopewell’s marketing manager Nicole McLaws said the Elan is one of the most popular front-attached garage homes.

“Its open-concept main floor, spacious dining room, chef’s kitchen and four bedrooms with upstairs laundry make it an instant favourite among growing families,” she said.

The main-floor flex room is another sought-after feature, the ideal space for a home office or play area — an out-of-the-way spot, yet right off the kitchen, for toys and craft supplies.

“At just over 220 square feet, the upper-floor bonus room also offers great space for family movie nights,” McLaws said.

The mud room off the garage takes care of the clutter and mess of coats, backpacks and snowy boots.

McLaws said there are quickpossession versions of the Elan available in Mahogany for buyers ready to make their move or families have ample opportunity to build from scratch on their preferred lot and to choose their personal favourites from Hopewell’s designer finishings.

“In Mahogany, Hopewell offers a range of quick-possession homes, including condos, paired homes, laned homes and front garage homes. There truly is a Hopewell home for every budget and move-in timeline in Mahogany,” she said.

Mahogany continues to be Calgary ’s best-selling community year after year.

“With Calgary’s largest freshwater lake, two private sandy beaches, a residents-only beach club, 30 hectares of naturalized wetlands, new shopping and dining, a new school and so much more, no other Calgary community compares to Mahogany,” McLaws said.

“The best part is there’s a true sense of community in Mahogany. Most of the incredible amenities are all ready to be enjoyed from the day you move in.”

Brent and Rachel enjoyed the lake with the kids this summer and are settling into a neighbourhood full of like-minded people, all raising families with bedtime struggles just like them.

“It’s a great area. It’s where we want to be,” Brent said.
