Sniper Gaudreau coming off star-studded week

- WES GILBERTSON

Johnny Gaudreau’s seven-game point spree was snapped Sunday in Edmonton.

The Calgary Flames’ five-game win streak ended that same evening.

For the superstar left-winger, this should provide a bit of a pickme-up.

Gaudreau was feted Monday as the NHL’s third star of the week, hardly a surprise after he racked up eight points — two goals and a half-dozen helpers — in his last four outings.

Vancouver Canucks rookie scoring sensation Elias Pettersson topped the weekly accolades, while Tampa Bay Lightning backstop Louis Domingue was named second star.

Gaudreau dazzled on the final stop of the Flames fathers’ trip, equalling his career high — and delighting his proud papa Guy — with a four-point outburst Tuesday in Columbus.

He tallied twice during that 9-6 thriller and also collected a pair of assists.

The 25-year-old fan favourite factored in on both home goals in Thursday’s 2-0 blanking of the Minnesota Wild and provided a pair of setups again in Saturday’s 5-2 win over the Nashville Predators before being silenced Sunday in a 1-0 shutout loss to the Oilers in Edmonton.

Gaudreau is Calgary’s leading point producer with a dozen goals and 27 assists in 31 games so far this season.

The Flames, currently perched atop the Western Conference standings with a 19-10-2 record, are back in action Wednesday when they welcome the Philadelphia Flyers to the Saddledome.
