Markle was Google U.K.’s most searched celebrity in ’18

-

Meghan Markle, the Duchess of Sussex, was the most searched for name on Google U.K. in 2018.

Ahead of the year coming to an end, the search engine has released its list of the terms most frequently looked up by users with the former Suits star, who wed Prince Harry in May, named the top trending celebrity.

It’s the second year running that the American has topped the list.

She was followed in the list by Roxanne Pallett, a British soap star who hit headlines when she appeared on Celebrity Big Brother and accused fellow housemate Ryan Thomas of punching her, and Demi Lovato, who suffered a drug overdose in July. Lovato topped the U.S. list of most searched-for celebrity names.

Meghan also came in second in Google U.K.’s list of trending queries behind the World Cup and ahead of Royal Wedding and Black Panther, the Marvel film that was critically acclaimed upon its release in February.

It seems the interest in the British royal family is still as strong as ever as “Royal wedding ” and “royal baby” were Google U.K.’s top news event trends.

As well as Meghan and Harry’s 2018 wedding, Princess Eugenie and Jack Brooksbank also wed in October.

And while Meghan announced that she was pregnant during her royal tour with Harry in Australia in October, her sister-in-law Catherine, the Duchess of Cambridge, gave birth to son Louis in April — which may have also contributed to the trends.
