WOLF WILLOW OFFERS FUN IN ALL DIRECTIONS

Outdoor living beckons for residents of new south Calgary community

- JOSH SKAPIN

Nothing beats having good neighbours.

For Mark and Rachelle Cooper, who take possession of their first home in November, amenities directly neighbouring their new community couldn’t be overlooked.

The family of three is moving to a single-family home by Jayman Built in Wolf Willow.

This new south Calgary community is by Westcreek Developments, the same developer behind Legacy, a multiple winner of the BILD (Building Industry and Land Development) Calgary region Community of the Year-city of Calgary award.

From this location, two of the Coopers’ favourite places for quality time in the fresh air are just a quick walk or bicycle ride away: Blue Devil Golf Club and Fish Creek Provincial Park.

“I can see it being like a golf community and just drive a golf cart down there,” Rachelle joked about the convenient distance from their new home. “We love that course.”

The couple, who presently rent a home in Deer Run, frequent the scenic 18-hole course that sits on 194th Avenue S.E.

“It’s right across the street,” says Mark, a designer for an architecture firm. “A two-minute drive, maybe a five-minute walk.”

The Coopers have long spent sunny days at the 13.48-square-kilometre Fish Creek Park, and from their new home, access will be even easier.

Westcreek general manager Jared Goldade says, “Fish Creek Provincial Park and the boundaries of Wolf Willow are one and the same.”

“We spend a lot of time at Fish Creek Park,” Rachelle says, adding, “Bow Valley Ranche (based out of a historic home within the park) is definitely one of our favourite restaurants.”

Wolf Willow, which measures about 162 hectares (400 acres), is expected to build out to 3,500 homes. The community presently offers front-drive and laned single-family homes by Morrison Homes, Jayman Built and Trico Homes.

There are also duplexes by Shane Homes, townhomes by Stepper Homes and Madison Avenue Group, and condos by Cove Properties.

As part of the formal launch of Wolf Willow, 19 show homes were unveiled in the community last month.

“We walked into one of the show homes and almost decided that day that this was the model we wanted to go with,” Mark says.

They bought the Cruz 20, a 1,661-square-foot, three-bedroom, laned single-family home, and one of the models Jayman demonstrates as a show home in Wolf Willow.

“We liked that this model is nice, bright, and has an open design with tall ceilings,” says Mark, singling out their appreciation for the “amount of (natural) light that comes into this model.”

For the Coopers, the kitchen was a highlight. Particularly its “all-new modern appliances and massive pantry,” says Rachelle.

Mark handles the bulk of the cooking, impressing with dishes such as his “on point” short ribs, she adds. The open-concept cooking space won his heart, as well.

“The pantry was certainly a plus,” he says. “We got a gas stove, which is something I’ve always wanted in a home.”

The couple were also fans of the flex room off the home’s foyer that they’ve already earmarked as their son’s homework station.

“What really was the selling feature for me was, through our home builder, the amount of finishes we could choose from, which I was totally blown away by,” says Rachelle. “Lots of really cool tile patterns, really funky things to choose from — not your typical choose No. 1, 2, or 3.”

Along with amenities near the community, the plan for Wolf Willow itself is a special combination. This includes its commitment to park space, such as a planned dog park, and relationship with the Bow River.

“The connection to the Bow River and being down in the river valley is huge,” says Goldade. “We have our saying, ‘Bold on the Bow,’ and that truly sums up living in Wolf Willow.”

Among the various benefits to this “connection to the river,” adds Goldade, is the Bow’s world-renowned fly-fishing experience.

Along with the river on the east end of the community is an environmental reserve. There are also two large ponds on its south side and a large escarpment on the west.

We have our saying, ‘Bold on the Bow,’ and that truly sums up living in Wolf Willow.

“When you live in Wolf Willow, in all directions you look, there are amenities,” Goldade says.

Wolf Willow’s future dog park was a “selling feature,” says Rachelle, adding the family — who presently doesn’t have a dog — recently reached out to breeders, with interest in getting a Samoyed.

“Having that right within the community will be exciting for future residents and the community as a whole,” says Goldade.
