1. Love for Looch

Saturday was a big night for Milan Lucic, who notched his 200th career goal and second straight as a member of the Flames. According to interim head coach Geoff Ward, this could be an indication of things to come from the 31-year-old. “He’s always been a streak scorer,” Ward said. “So, hopefully, this is a good sign. Hopefully, it keeps going.”

2. Power play trending up

The Flames were 1-for-4 with the man advantage on Saturday, giving them power-play goals in three straight games. But there are still things to improve upon, specifically with their offensive zone entries.

3. Line juggling

If there’s one thing consistent about this team in the last five games, it’s that their lines, um, haven’t been. It appears that’s a good thing. The in-game adjustments of Ward have been effective and productive. Johnny Gaudreau practised all week on a line with Derek Ryan and Lucic and started Thursday and Saturday’s games in that position. But Ward then moved him back with his old pal Sean Monahan and Mikael Backlund and slid Dillon Dube back with Ryan and Lucic.

4. In or Out?

Inserting Zac Rinaldo into the lineup definitely gave the Flames life Saturday. The team flew to Colorado on Sunday and did not skate, so it is not clear if he’ll draw in again Monday or if they’ll put the struggling Mark Jankowski back in. That also goes for Oliver Kylington, who was replaced by Michael Stone on defence. Then there’s the question of playing Cam Talbot. His 30-save effort against the Kings was impressive. But with a game in Arizona on Tuesday, they may just go back to David Rittich in Colorado and play Talbot against the Coyotes.

5. This ‘N’ That

Monahan is riding a fivegame point streak with three goals and three assists in that span … the Flames have won four straight… Calgary is also riding a six-game point spree (5-0-1).
