Greenwich lifestyle offers ‘a nice mix’

Easy access to downtown, mountains

- CINDY STEPHEN

Life on the 20th floor of a downtown highrise has its benefits — such as gorgeous mountain views and insulation from disagreeable weather on the street far below.

But for condo dwellers Gurjot and Amy Bhullar, the need for more living space and storage, plus a longing for a more suburban existence, have become more important than watching the clouds roll in over the Rockies.

“We got married last year, and we want to get out of downtown and have a different lifestyle,” says Amy. So later this year, they’ll bid farewell to their one-bedroom condo and move to a three-bedroom townhome in Artis at Greenwich by Landmark Homes. It was Gurjot who first discovered Greenwich, a New York-inspired infill community directly across the highway from Winsport Canada Olympic Park.

“The signage was a big reason why we knew about it. Every time I went to play hockey at Winsport, and whenever we would drive out to the mountains, we would notice the signs. We kept our eye on Greenwich for a good year before we bought there,” he says.

On their first visit, there was just a small information centre set up by the developer, Melcor. They subscribed to email updates and eventually learned that multi-family builders Landmark Homes and Madison Avenue Group were planning townhomes and Cove Properties was offering condos. When the show homes were eventually opened, Amy and Gurjot made their selection.

“We looked at Artis. Our connection with Andreas, the salesperson, was pretty much immediate. We knew if we were going to buy, it was going to be with those guys,” Gurjot says.

Because they wanted a double garage, a driveway and three bedrooms in their new home, Landmark’s Amara II floor plan was the best fit. An end unit with 1,539 square feet, this model provided the large, open floor plan they were looking for. An end unit also had more windows and light than the interior units.

Gurjot says they appreciate the large centre island in the kitchen while Amy is pleased that even with three bedrooms upstairs, the master bedroom is still spacious.

“One of the bedrooms will be for guests and the other will be an office for our current temporary work situation at home until we choose to make it into a nursery,” says Amy, who works as a litigation legal assistant.

Gurjot, an aerospace engineer, travels to work by the airport and appreciates being close to Stoney Trail. The mountains are a 40-minute drive from Greenwich.

“We actually timed it,” Amy says. “Greenwich is a nice mix. Far enough away that you’re not in the middle of the city, but you can get anywhere quickly.”

Landmark area sales manager for Artis, Andreas Angellakis, says 80 per cent of residents in Phase 1 have moved in, with almost half the homes in the project sold. He says so far, most buyers in Artis are young professionals in his age bracket.

Case in point are the Bhullars, who chose to buy in Artis based on the trust and comfort level they felt with Landmark.

“They’re first-time buyers and the process of selecting the lot and the interior design should be fun,” he says.

Prices in the New York-style townhome project start in the $350,000s, with the largest three-bedroom end units with double car garages priced from the $430,000s.

Angellakis says Greenwich is taking shape with construction of the farmer’s market scheduled to start in late spring. Melcor has completed the pathway system in the community, with an off-leash dog park, basketball court and playground coming in tandem with the market.
