Family flexibility

Plan offers optional main floor bedroom that’s ideal for multi-generational living

In a household that extends past the immediate family, the design of the home has extra boxes to tick.

This is particularly true in a home that includes grandparents or other elderly relatives. That’s when the focus extends to the ability for these family members to use the home without needing to take the stairs.

A show home in the south Calgary community of Belmont displays the option for a model by Cedarglen Homes to accommodate this need.

The Carbon SSY 24 is a 2,031-square-foot, two-storey model with a front-attached double car garage. Meeting the needs of a multi-generational living arrangement, its show home demonstrates a floor plan option that allows for a bedroom and full bathroom on the main level.

By shortening the kitchen pantry, the main floor is reconfigured to fit a bedroom and bathroom just off the foyer. This gives the people who occupy this space everything they need on the same level of the home.

This floor plan has a range of options, including a fourth bedroom added to the second floor, which is also presented in this show home.

For many people, there’s nothing better than enjoying a good breakfast surrounded by sunshine. Along the back of the home, the dining area provides just that. This space boxes out, and receives

light from both a large rear-facing window and tall sliding glass doors along a side wall.

A bulkhead provides a sense of separation between the dining area, kitchen and great room it connects to through an open-concept design.

The kitchen is L-shaped and sits across from 12-foot by 15-foot great room.

Serving as a focal point for the great room is a stylish elongated fireplace beneath a mounted TV. Like the dining area, this space is naturally bright. It fills with light through windows on both the rear wall and windows that flank the fireplace.

People who work from home and regularly have files and materials dropped off won’t have to worry about privacy. The foyer completely restricts views to other ends of the home.

On the second level, the central bonus room creates a winged effect, with the master bedroom on one end and three secondary bedrooms on the other. This space is ideal for family to gather and relax before going to bed.

The master bedroom is 13 feet six inches by 14 feet six inches and has an upscale ensuite that provides direct access to a large walk-in closet. Connecting the ensuite and closet creates one fluid space for getting ready in the morning, limiting the chance of disrupting one’s partner who may not need to wake up yet.

The ensuite includes dual vanities beneath a full-width mirror, a soaker tub and free-standing glass-encased shower.

On the other end of the home, the three secondary bedrooms are in a variety of sizes, with the largest being nine feet by 13 feet. They all sit within a step or two of a full bathroom.

Belmont is a new community master-planned by Anthem United. It’s located just west of Macleod Trail and less than 10 minutes south of Spruce Meadows.
