Sharing food and spreading rainbows
The world is dealing with a coronavirus pandemic, but difficult times often bring out the best in people. Neighbours help neighbours. Strangers help strangers. We want to hear what you’re doing to lift spirits or make a difference during this challenging time. Share your story and/or photo by emailing reply@calgaryherald.com
ANIMAL ALERT
There’s something about animal antics that are sure to put a smile on one’s face. Here, Postmedia Calgary photographers captured a few frames to share: A goose that seems to be reading a “closed” sign at the Glenmore Reservoir; a dog that loves playing catch; and, a dog that loves to pose for photos.
FEEDING YYC
A new campaign is donating meals to families in need. Called Feeding YYC, participating local restaurants have partnered with some local businesses and agencies to help feed Calgarians who are going without enough food. About 200 families will receive meals through Brown Bagging for Calgary’s Kids, Inn From the Cold, Centre for Newcomers and Made by Momma in the #Buyonegiveone campaign. When people buy a meal from a participating restaurant, a family in need will also receive a restaurant meal. The program runs until May 17.
RAINBOWS APPEAR
Communication pros Jo Williams and Shannon Larkins have started a campaign called Random Acts of Rainbows, to brighten the days of Calgarians. Inspired by the rainbows seen posted in some windows during the pandemic, the pair is encouraging others to spread rainbows, via paintings, chalk graffiti, social media and even baked goods.
“The rainbow is a powerful symbol of inclusiveness,” said Larkins. “People of all colours, genders and ages are tragically affected by this same virus. The rainbow is a reminder of inclusivity and it can also be a beautiful reminder that we all still have bright lights and colourful souls to share out in the world.” #Randomactsofrainbows.
