The 15-year-old victim of a fatal hit-and-run collision in northeast Calgary early Wednesday morning is being remembered as a “one-ofa-kind” teenager.

A Gofundme page created to raise money for his family and funeral costs identifies the victim of the collision as Ibaad Yar, who was pronounced dead on scene after officers responded to the crash at 16th Avenue and 52nd Street N.E. around 2:30 a.m. Wednesday.

The page, started by a family friend, describes Yar as a compassionate teenager who loved making others smile.

“Ibaad Yar was a one of a kind fifteen-year-old. He was a loving son, amazing brother, and a loyal friend. Whenever he walked into a room, he made everyone happy,” the page reads.

“He had his entire life before him, and all he ever wanted was to see the people around him laugh and smile. Ibaad was kind, down to earth, and deserved more than what happened to him.”

In the incident, according to police a 2008 Buick Allure struck a 2010 Dodge Journey from behind, causing it to cross over the centre median and launch a male occupant from the car.

Police say they believe an altercation occurred between people at the scene, which ended when the suspect in the Buick left. The Buick was found unoccupied in the Saddletowne area later the same day.

An autopsy of the victim was completed Thursday but police declined to release the identity of the victim as he is a minor. The cause of death has not yet been confirmed.

Two other minors who were also in the Dodge were seriously injured in the crash.

Police say excessive speed was a factor in the crash but don’t know whether it was related to road-racing. They say it is unknown whether drugs or alcohol were involved.

Police arrested three people in relation to the collision Thursday but did not provide any details on their identity or connection to the case.
