Watermark challenges other communities to post ‘porchtraits’
Every porch photo loaded to Instagram or Facebook raises $10 for the food bank
A social media campaign hosted by the developer of a Calgary-area community is stepping up on the porch portrait pandemic craze while raising funds for the Calgary Food Bank.
The Watermark Front Step Series is a limited-time promotion organized by Macdonald Communities and its Watermark at Bearspaw community. Individuals and families are asked to share their front porch selfies for a selfless cause. For every porch portrait uploaded to Instagram or Facebook, tagged with @watermar-katbearspaw containing the hashtag #watermarkatbearspaw, Macdonald will donate $10 to the food bank.
Community relations manager Carla Crews says the promotion gives recognition to giving back and showcases the strong sense of family and community in Watermark.
“Our families care for and look out for one another, so we wanted to extend that same community spirit to Calgary and the surrounding areas. Then we thought, why stop there? Let’s extend this invitation to everyone and raise as much money as we can for the Calgary Food Bank,” she says.
With self-isolation and social distancing part of the new normal, porch portraits creatively capture a moment in time during this era of COVID-19. The portraits in the Front Step Series can be taken as a selfie or by using a timer on a digital camera. Participants can dress up in costume, use props and make signs if they choose, then upload the photo to their Instagram account or Facebook page with the appropriate tags.
Watermark is in Rocky View County, south of Crowchild Trail and west of Twelve Mile Coulee Road. Show homes are open regular hours with limited capacity.
The Front Step Series will run until June 12.
