Charges laid in Taradale shooting as vehicle search continues

Calgary police have charged two men in connection with a shooting in the northeast community of Taradale on Friday night.

Officers responded to reports of shots fired in the 0 to 100 block of Tarington Way N.E. around 10:15 p.m. Friday. Police at the scene found that a gun had been fired and multiple nearby homes had sustained property damage in the shooting.

On Tuesday, police charged Terrell Chol, 25, and Marcell Divon Simms, 22, both of Calgary, with a variety of weapons-related charges.

Chol faces 16 charges, including possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose, unauthoriz­ed possession of a firearm, careless use of a firearm, dangerous operation of a vehicle and flight from a police officer. Simms faces one count each of possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose, unauthoriz­ed possession of a firearm and possession of a firearm obtained by crime.

Police are also looking to locate a dark-coloured BMW involved in the shooting. Shots were fired from a silver car in the direction of the BMW before both vehicles left the area, according to police.

Police later found the silver car after it was involved in a single-vehicle crash on the ramp leading to 64th Avenue N. from southbound

Deerfoot Trail, and arrested both occupants of the car. However, they are still seeking informatio­n on the BMW and its occupants.
