MIKAYLA GALE

St. Timothy in Cochrane

-

... Ponder the magnitude of it for a moment — graduating from high school is one of the most significant achievements of our lifetimes and has required a tremendous contribution of dedication, perseverance, determination, loving, giving and caring, from not only ourselves, but also our families, teachers, and loved ones ... Going out into the world, each and every individual in this class must understand that they are capable of changing the world ... Another thing that I have come to understand through our journey is simply that people make mistakes. We are not, by any means or definitions, perfect.

And in that spirit, I implore you to live with no regrets. Don’t dwell on the past. Look onward to the future. Do so with compassion for your fellow human beings and in acceptance of not only their capacity for error, but also your own. The moments shared with your family, friends and peers should be ones treasured for the rest of your life. Think about the people in your life ... and appreciate them — flaws, mistakes and all. You will surely discover that making the time to accept others creates an optimistic outlook on life ...

Undoubtedly, graduating under these circumstances will be memorable, perhaps even more memorable because of the opportunity it has afforded us to spend quality time with family. I know there will be some groans and jokes about this statement, but when you reflect on it in the months and years to come, you will surely find at least a grain of truth. Graduates, it’s our time.

It is our time to go forth. It is our time to experience new things. It is our time to embark on new journeys. It is our time to show the world our passion and how we can strive for the best. It is our time to succeed . ... Ahead of us is life. Let’s embrace it!
