STRIKING THE RIGHT BALANCE
Cypress II show home hits the mark
While the couch or dining room table may serve the needs of a work space for an evening or two, they’re not long-term solutions.
Whether someone’s profession keeps them at home full-time, or they’re polishing off a work project from home semi-regularly, it’s essential to have a space that supports productivity.
Work and play are nicely balanced in the Cypress II by Broadview Homes. This upscale 2,258-square-foot single-family model is presented as a show home in the Springbank community of Harmony.
Each of Broadview’s detached homes in Harmony comes with a three-car garage.
For a young family, it’s important that the office be accessible but distanced from the high-traffic spaces in the home. This gives the distance and privacy the occupant needs to stay focused on work and take professional phone calls.
The nine-foot, four-inch by eight-foot work space in the Cypress II is just off the front entrance, well removed from the great room, dining area and kitchen along the back of the home.
In the show home, it’s demonstrated with an elegant sliding barn door. Tall windows, with views of the front yard, fill the space with natural light.
People who don’t work from home may also see value in the office as a space for a school-aged child to do homework. The space also has the potential to function as a playroom or craft room.
The balance of the main level is well-suited for entertaining. It’s easy to imagine hosting get-togethers with friends and family in the bright and open-concept great room, dining area, and luxurious kitchen.
The kitchen is centrally located and headlined by a substantial island — it sits beneath stylish pendant lighting — with an eating bar that seats at least four people.
In addition to playing the role of social hub, its considerable dimensions make it easy for meal preparation to be a group effort.
Domestic chefs will be drawn to the upscale Kitchenaid stainless steel appliance package, which has a six-burner cooktop, wall oven, built-in microwave, and 27-cubic foot fridge.
The kitchen’s pantry and generous volume of cabinets, which have soft-close doors, will keep clutter to a minimum.
This kitchen is also a visual treat. The simple and clean full-height white tile backsplash with contrasting black grout and eye-catching blue used on the body of the island create a striking combination.
Activity in the kitchen will naturally progress to the spacious dining area on its flank. As seen in the show home, this room will support a table of at least six people comfortably. Across from the kitchen is a great room with a box-shaped fireplace bookended by tall, narrow windows.
The back end of the main level feels larger than it normally would because its most important rooms are not competing for square footage with the staircase. Instead, access to both the second floor and basement are positioned just off the foyer.
On the second level, the master bedroom is the star. At 16 feet eight inches by 13 feet, it’s a considerable space that offers comfort and privacy. The sleep space is distanced from the entrance to the room, which limits the chance of a disruption when others in the home are awake earlier than the room’s occupants.
The master features a walk-in closet and upscale ensuite with dual sinks, a soaker tub, and glass-encased shower.
Two secondary bedrooms, which are similar in size, are located next to each other on a side wall. They each have a walk-in closet.
The grand front-facing bonus room offers a family gathering space. Generously sized windows fill the space with sunlight and a boxed out portion adds to its architectural interest.
As a standard, the home comes with smart home technology including a Honeywell IAQ Touchscreen Thermostat, and Skybell Wi-fi video doorbell, among other features.
