GOEMANS, Johan Georg

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Johan (John or Hans) Goemans (P.eng), beloved husband of Anke, father to Peter (Lise), Ingrid, Bart (Marcy) and Eric. Opa to Olivia, Ethan, Quillan, Megan and Logan, brother to Henk and Liane.

Hans passed away peacefully with dignity and courage drawing on his signature sense of humour while surrounded by his family at home.

Hans was born in Bandung, Indonesia, but also lived in the Netherlands where he completed his undergrad in mining engineering and his Master of Science degree in 1962 at Delft University. Hans met Anke, the love of his life in 1960 via a life-long friend and their romance and marriage spanned 58 years. After they immigrated to Canada in 1962, Hans built a successful career and was well regarded during his many years of service to Alberta's oil patch.

Time with Hans was marked by lessons of integrity, wit, thoughtfulness, generosity and fairness underscored by a legendary sense of humour and his unmistakable laughter. He was also a skilled tennis player, bridge player, sailor and photographer.

The family would like to thank his physicians, care team and his family doctor for their compassion, dedication and exceptional care and support. Thank you also to the wonderful doctors and nurses in Unit 68 at South Health Campus.

A celebration of Han's life will be held at a later date. If friends so desire, in lieu of flowers, memorial tributes may be made directly to Dying with Dignity (www.dyingwithdignity.ca).
