WALLACE, Valerie Diane

Valerie Diane Wallace passed away peacefully at home in Calgary on August 6, 2020 at the age of 76 years. Born and raised in Windsor, Ontario, Valerie received a Masters Degree in Social Work from Wayne State University in Detroit, Michigan in 1968 and went on to pursue a career in Toronto, Edmonton and Calgary. Throughout her life, she was an active member of the community as a volunteer for the Cerebral Palsy Associatio­n, a member of the YMCA, Toastmaste­r’s Club and the Alberta Handicraft­s Guild among others. A foster parent to several children in South America, she was a strong advocate for the disadvanta­ged both in her career and private life. She also donated to the welfare of animals, and supported the reintroduc­tion of wolves from B.C. to Yellowston­e Park. Valerie adopted a number of rescued cats over the years who became valued pets. Travel was an important part of Valerie’s life and she visited many parts of the world, including Russia, Eastern Europe, China and the Galapagos. She is survived by her brother, Leonard Wallace (Victoria Cross) of Windsor, Ontario. Valerie leaves behind many good friends who will deeply miss her. Condolence­s may be forwarded through
