How to get there As the capital of northern British Columbia, Prince George is quite the drive from a major city. It’s located 788-km north of Vancouver along Highway 97 and 740-km west of Edmonton, on Highway 16. Air Canada and Westjet offer multiple daily flights from Vancouver, while regional carriers Central Mountain Air and Pacific Coastal Airlines have flights to multiple destinations throughout British Columbia, including Victoria, Kelowna and Fort St. John.

Where to stay Both the Prestige Treasure Cove Hotel ( prestigehotelsandresorts.com) and Four Points by Sheraton are by Highway 97, which makes for easy access in and out of the city. The Sandman Signature Prince George Hotel ( sandmansignature.ca) is the only four-star hotel in Prince George. For a truly quirky hotel experience, Esther’s Inn ( esthersinn.com) is home to an atrium that houses lush gardens, an indoor pool and a hot tub. Where to eat D’lanos (1515 Victoria St.) and Grama’s Kitchen ( gramasinn. com) are popular breakfast choices. For lunch or dinner, Twisted Cork ( twisted-cork.com), White Goose Bistro ( white goosebistro.ca) and Copper Pig bbq House ( copperpigbbq.ca) are three restaurants that share loyal local followings.

Where to shop As mountain biking booms in the Prince George region, the bike shops keep pace. Ruckus Skis Boards and Bikes ( ruckuspg.ca) has the largest selection in the city and its staff is renown for its work on the local trails. Cycle Logic ( cyclelogicbikes.com) has a convenient downtown location, while Evolve Ski and Bike ( evolvebike.ca) is just south of the city centre.
