MEC’S Century Ride in Horseshoe Valley is just one of 20 the company plans to host across the country this year. With hills, well-stocked aid stations and an après-ride celebration, the event offers everything you could want from a fondo, but at a low price. The rides came out of an activity strategy the company launched in 2012 with the goal of getting Canadians outside and active. “One of MEC’S goals is to make our events as accessible to as many people as possible,” Cameron Dempster, outreach co-ordinator at MEC in Toronto, said. The company also aims to create an enjoyable environment for just about any cyclist. “I think one of our latest slogans sums up the vibe: ‘good times outside,’” Dempster said. “Our events really cater to all levels, from the elite group of roadies looking to push on a morning ride to those who are just getting into the sport and might need a little extra support.”
