Granfondo Pinarello, also called La Pinarello Cycling Marathon or La Pina for short, aptly takes place in Treviso, the home of the bicycle manufacturer that lends its name to the event. The fondo is big – 4,000 riders in a mass start – but participants spread out quickly when they meet the first climb. This year, medio fondo riders take a trip up Muro di Ca’ del Poggio, a 1.15-km climb averaging 12.2 per cent in grade that’s appeared in the Giro d’italia. The longer route meanders through the Cansiglio Forest, Italy’s second-largest forest, presenting a challenge and scenery of its own. Everyone can enjoy Italian fare along the way, and can celebrate together back in Treviso with music, beverages and food.
