Tragedy be falls tcr race director
On March 31, Transcontinental Race director Mike Hall was killed while competing in the India Pacific Wheel Race. Hall was struck by a car outside the Australian city of Canberra.
Hall was inspired to start the tcr after smashing the around-the-world record by winning the World Cycle Race in 91 days. “He rapidly became a legend and man to beat in the bikepacking scene,” said Dussault. “The first time I saw him he was smoking a cigarette, and thought, ‘You’re smoking and riding like a demon!’
“When Mike heard about my blown-out tire, he suggested that next time I use fishing line to sew up the tire and get back on the road faster,” added Dussault.
The day after Hall’s death, his partner Anna posted a message on the Facebook page for the Transcontinental Race. “Please know the race is in our thoughts,” she wrote, “but for now we can only offer you the assurance that we will do what we know Mike would have wanted this year… Our pledge is that Mike will be remembered in the best way possible.”
