Creemore, Ont., has been made famous among beer drinkers because of the Creemore Springs Brewery. The town, roughly 130 km north of Toronto, is also the starting point for Turas Mór, a ride inspired by the grand vintage rides of Europe. The name translates to “great journey” in Gaelic. According to Steph Mclarty, marketing manager at Creemore Springs, the brewery started hosting the event with the intent of celebrating cycling heritage. “We encourage riders to don their vintage costumes and gear – riding a vintage, or ‘heroic’ bikes made prior to 1987,” Mclarty said, adding that new bikes are still welcome. This year, the ride coincided with the Creemore Vintage Festival.

The focus of the day isn’t speed, but savouring the 25-km or 60-km courses and making the most of the rides. “Folks are encouraged to enjoy the beauty of the area with fellow cycling enthusiasts and finish the day with the vintage festival, beer garden and food offerings that take place back at the brewery,” Mclarty said. “It’s all about great food, delicious beer, camaraderie and a beautiful day of cycling all rolled into one.”
