The nick­name of the great cor­morant used in a re­cent study that showed the an­i­mal can hear un­der wa­ter — the first time re­searchers have doc­u­mented the abil­ity in a marine bird. Sci­en­tists from the Univer­sity of South­ern Den­mark showed that Loke was able to hear sounds at a fre­quency be­tween one and four kilo­hertz — the same range as cetaceans.
