Mention the word October and it can seem as though the brain goes into overdrive. Fueled by nostalgia and tradition, there’s a whole host of sensations that come rushing in. Try it yourself: You’ll see the grinning faces of jack-o’-lanterns and the bold reds, oranges, yellows and golds of turning leaves; you’ll feel the crispness of the air and the early morning mist; you’ll hear crackling bonfires and children chatting and giggling; smell apple pies, turkey and stuffing fresh from the oven; and you’ll taste apple cider and pumpkin spice lattes on the tongue. See what we mean? This just may be the most evocative month on the calendar.
Our stories this month are pretty evocative, too, if we do say so ourselves, and likewise cover all the senses. You’ll see your best-ever skin and hair on display after putting our tips and tricks to the test (“Love the Skin You’re In,” page 22 and “Time to Shine,” page 18). You’ll listen to your inner voice repeat a few self-care mantras when you practice making yourself a priority (“Me First,” page 48) and hear your feet whisper “Thank you!” when you slip on a pair of new shoes like the ones we’re featuring in our footwear story (“Walk this Way,” page 38). You’ll feel better inside and out when you pay attention to how your diet affects your mood (“Food for Thought,” page 56). And as for scent and taste? Well, our recipes this issue, from turkey to tomato sauce, are so flavourful they just leap off the page. So go ahead, read on, and consider this issue a virtual fullbody experience for making the most of the month!
