10 Questions with David LePorho
Montreal-based runner David LePorho isn’t just one of Canada’s fastest marathoners (2:19). He’s also the reigning snowshoeing world champion. This fall, the 39-year-old father of two hopes to run his fastest marathon ever at the Scotiabank Toronto Waterfront Marathon. He hopes to follow that up in 2017 with a Canadian masters record.
1 What would you say are your defining characteristics as a runner?
I’m multi-disciplined, wise, strategic and able to endure.
2 What do you admire most in another runner?
The ability to focus on a goal. Being able to constantly get motivated for key workouts; being disciplined.
3 What is your idea of happiness?
Taking a coffee break during a long trekking trip with my beloved, lost in the nature, in front of a wonderful landscape.
4 Who are your athletic heroes?
I admire pure performances, as much as the ability to maintain such performances at a high level for decades. Meb Kef lezighi and Eric Gillis are the perfect examples.
5 Where would you like to live?
I’ve travelled a lot, many places are attractive. Nevertheless, Montreal, where I currently live, perfectly balances all aspects of my lifestyle.
6 What is your greatest running-related regret?
That I didn’t start to run seriously earlier ( before I turned 30). But I really enjoyed my 20s with no binding discipline related to sports.
7 What is your greatest fear?
To not be able to travel any longer in different countries.
8 If you could change one thing about yourself, what would it be?
I would like to be a bit less anxious. The good news is that running is a good remedy.
9 What’s one thing you can’t live without?
Coffee.
10 What is your motto?
The thing that’s important for me isn’t just to take part, but to enhance my own performance.– CR
