6 world records were set in track events in 2016, two at the RIO GAMES. Among the women, there was HARRISON’s 100m hurdle (12.20), DIBABA’s crazy 4:13 indoor mile, AYANA’s insane Olympic 29:17 for 10,000m (her second-ever attempt at the distance), and JEBET’s almost eyebrowraising 8:52 3,000m steeplechase, which knocked over six seconds off the old record. For the men we saw SOULEIMAN’s 1,000m indoor time of 2:14.20, and VAN NIEKERK’s 400m Olympic 43.03 gold, doing the impossible and beating Michael Johnson’s time of 43.18 set back in 1999.
