Two is the number of Canadian men in 2016 who ran a marathon faster than PAULA RADCLIFFE’s world record time of 2:15:25. Their names are familiar by now: Olympians ERIC GILLIS and REID COOLSAET. Meanwhile zero women ran sub-2:30 this year. Perhaps in part due to Olympic peaking back in 2015, this appears an off year for Canadian marathoners (Gillis’s top 10 finish in Rio notwithstanding).
