4-Hers eligible for Grant award
In the upcoming weeks, 4-H families across Cape Breton Island will receive packages in the mail regarding travel awards for senior 4-H members.
One of these awards is for provincial travel and is entitled the Kevin Grant Memorial Award.
Grant was a longtime 4-H participant, government public servant and an avid supporter of the Nova Scotia 4-H program. He provided a significant endowment to the Nova Scotia 4-H Foundation to assist with rural youth development, through the annual Kevin Grant Memorial Tour.
This leadership tour is held in different locations across Nova Scotia each year during the schools’ March break. The tour allows 4-H members to learn more about a specific region of the province. The participants meet with community leaders and tour and learn about business in rural communities. Participants also have the opportunity to meet and socialize with local 4-H members.
Ten 4-H members, between the ages of 14 and 16 as of Jan. 1, 2014, will be selected to participate. This tour usually takes place on the Monday to Wednesday of March break.
Interested participants must apply through the regional agriculture leadership co-ordinator in early November. Award decisions are based on the application, 4-H achievements and an interview.
For more details or an application, contact the agriculture leadership co-ordinator at the Nova Scotia Department of Agriculture.
