Wendell Joseph Carroll (Poppy)

-

With sad hearts, we announce the passing of our dearly beloved Wendell Joseph Carroll (Poppy) on Thursday, Sept. 26, 2013. Wendell was at home, surrounded by his loving family and with the compassionate support of the Palliative Care Service (CBRH).

Born in Sydney, N.S., in 1934, Wendell was the son of the late Russell and Jessie (Campbell).

In 1955, Wendell married the love of his life; and he and his wife Beverley raised four children in their loving home in Cape Breton. Wendell was an entrepreneur who eventually worked for the Nova Scotia Gaming Commission, from which he retired in 1996. Wendell danced his way through his retirement with his dancing partner Bev and the many friends and acquaintances who learned to waltz and rumba with them.

He is remembered by family and friends as an energetic and hard-working man of principle with a sharp sense of humour, a penchant for fun, and a real zest for life. He was a man who loved deeply and who was deeply loved.

Wendell is survived by his wife, Beverley (Pledge); his daughter, Coreen, Sydney; his sons, Kim ( Jane) and Randy (Andelynn), Sydney; and his youngest daughter, Wendy ( Jane), P.E.I. He is lovingly remembered by his grandchildren, Janine Carroll, Sydney, Sean Carroll (Lindsey), B.C., Amanda Carroll (Steve), Sydney, Katie Carroll (Cory), Sydney, Brianna Carroll (Kirt), Sydney, Clinton Barter (Amy), Sydney. He is deeply missed by his great-grandchildren, Tyrel and Teaonna Carroll, Ashlynn

Rose-Anne, Tristan Schrader, Julianne and Payten Barter. And he is fondly remembered by his sister, Sister Helen Carroll and brother, Russell Albert Carroll, Sydney.

Wendell was predeceased by his parents, his sister, Dolores McLean, his brother-in-law, Gordon McLean and his son-in-law, John Delaney Coleman.

Visitation will be held at S.W. Chant & Son Funeral Home, 564 Alexandra St., Sydney on Tuesday, Oct. 1 from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. The funeral service will be held Wednesday, Oct. 2 at 10 a.m. at St. Theresa’s Church on Whitney Avenue, with Fr. James Oliver officiating.
