Florence Bernadette ‘Berni’ ( Jerrett) Horton

Florence Bernadette ‘Berni’ ( Jerrett) Horton, 59, of Blandford, N.S. and Bradenton, Fla., went to heaven on Sept. 27, 2013, surrounded by her loving family after a long courageous battle with cancer.

She was born in Sydney Mines on Feb. 24, 1954 to Edward and Veronica Jerrett.

She is survived by her husband, Capt. Richard Horton and sons, Kristopher and Matthew. Also survived by her brothers, Ernest (Yvonne), Leonard (Ginny), George (Elizabeth), Donald (Barbara), Reggie (Louise), Michael (Patricia); by her sisters, Delphine Mansfield (Leckie), Lorraine Lewis, Bonnie Young (Sonny), Shirley Snowden (Richard), Beverley White (Mike), Brenda Dacey, Lynn Organ (Philip) and Edwina Jerrett; mother-in-law, Mary Horton; sisters-in-law, Sue Horton and Lynne Heron; and numerous nieces, nephews and many, many special friends.

Berni was predecease­d by her mother, father and her father-inlaw, F/L Edward Horton.

Berni was employed as a flight attendant with Air Canada for 12 years before leaving Canada for Florida to raise her family.

Known to friends as a talented chef who loved to entertain, and to family as a loving mother and partner. She and Rick spent much time travelling the world and meeting new friends and enjoyed their home on Kauai, Hawaii for 21 years.

The family would like to thank the staff of the palliative care unit of the Eastern Maine Medical Center for the excellent and compassion­ate care given to Berni.

Cremation has taken place and memorial services will be held at a later date.
