One dead, one in­jured in pair of mo­tor­cy­cle col­li­sions

A 24-year-old Tata­m­agouche man was killed in an early morn­ing mo­tor­cy­cle col­li­sion Sun­day.

At ap­prox­i­mately 4:45 a.m., Colch­ester RCMP, Emer­gency Health Ser­vices paramedics and fire­fight­ers with the Tata­m­agouche Fire Depart­ment re­sponded to the call.

A pre­lim­i­nary in­ves­ti­ga­tion de­ter­mined the male rider was trav­el­ing west­bound on High­way 6 when he lost con­trol of his mo­tor­cy­cle near the Main Street in­ter­sec­tion. He was found in a drive­way and pro­nounced de­ceased at the scene.

An RCMP traf­fic an­a­lyst was on site to as­sist in­ves­ti­ga­tors and the in­ter­sec­tion was closed for sev­eral hours.

The fa­tal mo­tor­cy­cle col­li­sion was the sec­ond in Colch­ester County over the week­end.

At ap­prox­i­mately 11:30 p.m. on Fri­day, a 19-year-old was trans­ported to hos­pi­tal with se­ri­ous in­juries af­ter col­lid­ing with a deer on the Onslow Moun­tain Road.

In that in­ves­ti­ga­tion, of­fi­cers de­ter­mined the Bel­mont man was trav­el­ling east­bound from Bel­mont when he hit the deer. He was found in the mid­dle of the road­way, with the de­ceased deer in the west­bound lane.

No other ve­hi­cles were in­volved in the col­li­sion.

Paramedics trans­ported the man to the Colch­ester East Hants Health Cen­tre be­fore he was air­lifted to the QEII Health Sciences Cen­tre in Hal­i­fax. He re­mains in crit­i­cal con­di­tion.
