Sweet Sweet Rosco upsets rivals at Northside Downs

Sweet Sweet Rosco used the rail to his advantage, leading all the way to win in 1:57.4 to highlight a 10-dash card of harness racing Saturday at Northside Downs.

Adam Lynk sent the five-yearold gelding by The Panderosa to the lead from the outset, parking out Silver Dragon and Dave Ratchford to a 28.3 opening quarter and withstood pressure throughout the entire mile to win by a length. Silver Dragon finished second, with Le Fugueur third. Machman, Junebugs Baby, Putnams Power, Boknows Momngranny and J Jetstar rounded out the field of eight. Sweet Sweet Rosco is owned by Lorne Grant.

Greg Bailey and Warren MacKinnon each had driving doubles on the card.

Dixie Lullaby opened the card by pacing to a win in her first career start, winning in 2:02.2 for Bailey’s first win. The two-yearold filly was a three-length winner over Anielori, with Here’s Harley third. Johnny Heffernan is the winning owner.

Bailey capped the double by guiding Kaitlyns Kowgirl to her second straight victory of the week, this time in 1:59.2, defeating Chapter and Gimme Some Money. Jackie Heffernan owns the five-year-old mare.

MacKinnon’s wins came with Giselle’s Big B, who won for the second time in 2015, this one in 2:02.4 over a fast closing Silverhill­diamond. George Down finished third. Peter MacKinnon is the winning owner. Fex Education sat second until the head of the stretch, and outsprinte­d leader Im A Sumbunnie to win the final race of the afternoon by three lengths in 1:58.4 for MacKinnon’s second win. Canaco Quinella finished third, six lengths back of the winner. MacKinnon also owns the eightyear-old Sir Luck stallion.

Other winners on the card included: Lils Destiny for John Hawco in 1:59.4, In The Studio for John Willie Beaton in 2:01, Mucklemout­h Meg for Roddie Gillis in 2:03, Surrealist for Randy Getto in 2:00.3, and Thecolour Of Jewel for Colin Kelly in 1:59.4.

Racing action returns to Northside Downs this coming Saturday at 1 p.m.
