Sweet Sweet Rosco up­sets ri­vals at North­side Downs

Sweet Sweet Rosco used the rail to his ad­van­tage, lead­ing all the way to win in 1:57.4 to high­light a 10-dash card of har­ness rac­ing Satur­day at North­side Downs.

Adam Lynk sent the five-yearold geld­ing by The Pan­derosa to the lead from the out­set, park­ing out Sil­ver Dragon and Dave Ratch­ford to a 28.3 open­ing quar­ter and with­stood pres­sure through­out the en­tire mile to win by a length. Sil­ver Dragon fin­ished sec­ond, with Le Fugueur third. Mach­man, Juneb­ugs Baby, Put­nams Power, Bo­knows Mom­n­granny and J Jet­star rounded out the field of eight. Sweet Sweet Rosco is owned by Lorne Grant.

Greg Bai­ley and War­ren MacKin­non each had driv­ing dou­bles on the card.

Dixie Lul­laby opened the card by pac­ing to a win in her first ca­reer start, win­ning in 2:02.2 for Bai­ley’s first win. The two-yearold filly was a three-length win­ner over Anielori, with Here’s Har­ley third. Johnny Hef­fer­nan is the win­ning owner.

Bai­ley capped the dou­ble by guid­ing Kait­lyns Kow­girl to her sec­ond straight vic­tory of the week, this time in 1:59.2, de­feat­ing Chap­ter and Gimme Some Money. Jackie Hef­fer­nan owns the five-year-old mare.

MacKin­non’s wins came with Giselle’s Big B, who won for the sec­ond time in 2015, this one in 2:02.4 over a fast clos­ing Sil­ver­hill­dia­mond. Ge­orge Down fin­ished third. Peter MacKin­non is the win­ning owner. Fex Ed­u­ca­tion sat sec­ond un­til the head of the stretch, and out­sprinted leader Im A Sum­bun­nie to win the fi­nal race of the af­ter­noon by three lengths in 1:58.4 for MacKin­non’s sec­ond win. Canaco Quinella fin­ished third, six lengths back of the win­ner. MacKin­non also owns the eightyear-old Sir Luck stal­lion.

Other win­ners on the card in­cluded: Lils Des­tiny for John Hawco in 1:59.4, In The Stu­dio for John Wil­lie Beaton in 2:01, Muck­le­mouth Meg for Rod­die Gil­lis in 2:03, Sur­re­al­ist for Randy Getto in 2:00.3, and The­colour Of Jewel for Colin Kelly in 1:59.4.

Rac­ing ac­tion re­turns to North­side Downs this com­ing Satur­day at 1 p.m.
