No better place in summer than Richmond County

Summer is here, and in Richmond that means lots of great summer events to enjoy for the whole family.

The Festival on the Lake starts on Friday with a 45s card game which will take place at the Lakeside Community Centre in Sampsonvil­le, starting at 7:30 p.m.

There will be prizes of home baking, only 50 cents per game.

On Saturday from 1-5 p.m., come to the Lakeside Community Center and take in the Quilt & Bed Covering Show. Come and view the beautiful display of quilts and bed coverings, including some lovely antique pieces.

Take some time and browse the community archive section at the center as well — the perfect way to find out the history of the local area. Refreshmen­ts will be served.

On Sunday, take in the festival’s pot luck dinner from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the centre. Enjoy a complete dinner including your choice of main courses, assortment of breads, a wide array of salads and desserts and a beverage. Admission is adults $8 and $4 for kids under 10 years of age.

In the evening, enjoy an evening of great local talent at the variety concert including a lunch, held at the centre starting at 7:30 p.m. Admission is only $5. There will also be tickets on a lawn mower and whipper snipper combo, which will be drawn for at the event.

Love the water and all it offers, you couldn’t find a better place to visit than Richmond. We have some great boating opportunit­ies for our guests. Starting July 24, Vollmer’s Island Paradise (VIPI) Dive & Boat Tours, out of Janvrins Island, will be starting their boat tours, with departures daily at 9 a.m. Call Ingo Vollmer at 902-226-1507 or check the web site at www.vipilodge.com/diving.html.

The 1st Annual Citizen Based Monitoring on the Bras d’Or Lake shore will take place on Saturday (rain date Sunday). All ages are welcomed from 2-5 p.m. There will be scientists and naturalist­s to answer your questions. Call the visitor informatio­n centre at 902-5352185 for more details.
