Strong open­ing day for Far­rell at ju­nior/ban­tam cham­pi­onship

Lin­gan Golf and Coun­try Club mem­ber Aubrey Far­rell is in the hunt of the lead­ers at the Nova Sco­tia Golf As­so­ci­a­tion ju­nior/ban­tam golf cham­pi­onships at Bell Bay Golf Club.

Far­rell is tied for fourth place with four oth­ers fol­low­ing at 6over-par 78 round in the boys ju­ve­nile di­vi­sion. Matthew Chan­dler of Ch­ester Golf Club leads the pack thanks to a 1un­der-par 71. Not far be­hind Far­rell is Seav­iew’s Ian Fraser, who shot a 7-over-par 79 and is tied for ninth spot.

Other Cape Bre­ton play­ers in the ju­ve­nile field in­clude: Car­son Guyaux, Lin­gan, 12 over par, tied for 20th; Cale Guyaux, Lin­gan, 13 over par, tied for 23nd; Kieran Ogrady and Graham Robin­son, both from Seav­iew, 30 over par, tied for 48th; Michael For­rest and Lyn­don Mur­rin, both of Seav­iew, 42 over par, tied for 50th; and Mark Camp­bell, Seav­iew, 52 over par, 52nd.

In the boys ju­nior di­vi­sion, Mitchell Burke of Seav­iew is in ninth spot af­ter scor­ing an 8over-par 80. Pa­trick Jack­son leads the di­vi­sion at an even-par 72.

Sean Smith of Lin­gan is in 13th place with a 10-over-par 82. Bren­dan Smith is tied for 17th spot with a 13-over 85.

Round­ing out the Cape Bre- ton golfers in the ju­nior di­vi­sion are: Tyler Syms and Tan­ner Guyaux, both of Lin­gan, 17 over, tied for 22nd; Aaron Shaw, Seav­iew, 30 over par, 31st; and Matthew Jessome, Seav­iew, 47 over par, 32nd.

Colin Fraser from Seav­iew is alone in fifth place in the ban­tam Di­vi­sion 1 boys cat­e­gory (un­der 15). He scored an 11over-par 83, 10 strokes back of leader Ewan Jr. Kelly of Ashburn. Bell Bay’s Sea­mus Stears is in sev­enth place at 13 over par.

The Lakes player An­drew McC­caron is in third place in the Di­vi­sion 2 boys ban­tam com­pe­ti­tion fol­low­ing a 16-over-par 88 round. Lin­gan’s A.J. Ley is tied for sev­enth spot at 23 over par.

Also par­tic­i­pat­ing in the di­vi­sion are: Dell Wel­ton, Bell Bay, 26 over par, 12th; Blake Cox, Seav­iew, 27 over par, 13th; Rory Mor­ri­son, Seav­iew, 38 over par, 20th; Jared Kublek, Seav­iew, 59 over par, 24th; and Ryan Power, Seav­iew, 74 over par, 25th.

Ken Wo Golf and Coun­try Club mem­ber Heather McLean leads the girls ban­tam field with a 10-over-par 82. Al­li­son Chan­dler of Ch­ester Golf Club is tops in the girls ju­nior di­vi­sion thanks to a 7-over-par 79. Ken Wo’s Meghan McLean is the top girls ju­ve­nile player af­ter an open­ing round, 5-over-par 77.
