Boknows Momngranny wins at Northside Downs

Boknows Momngranny picked up his first win of the season, taking the afternoon winners over in 2:00.2 to highlight an 11-dash card of harness racing Saturday at Northside Downs.

Driven by Greg Sparling for owner Butch Hawco, Boknows Momngranny cleared to the lead before the three quarters, and enjoyed a three-length lead heading into the stretch. Silver Dragon and Got faith in cowboys, who would finish second and third, closed to within a length of the leader at the finish, but would get no closer. Lils Destiny, I Am Able, and Pictonian Speed rounded out the field of six.

Driver Colin Kelly recorded two wins on the card to lead all drivers. Dusty Lane Royal won his third on the season, this time in a new mark of 2:00.1, for Kelly’s first win. The four-yearold stallion rallied from sixth at the half to win for owner and trainer Leonard MacLellan. Im A Sumbunnie finished second, with Pictonians Cyrus third. Kelly rallied In The Studio from off the pace as well to win the afternoon’s final race in 2:02.2. The 10-year-old gelding won by a half length over Electric Prince, with Porthill Ian finishing third. In The Studio won for the second time this season, and racked up his 23rd lifetime win for owners Norm Fiander and Brent Bradbury.

Korean War Vet opened the card by pacing to a maiden mark of 2:03.4 for Ryan Campbell. The three-year-old colt led all the way to win by four lengths over Desable and Heres Harley. Peter MacKinnon is the winning owner.

Camco Qready paced the fastest mile of the afternoon, going wire to wire in anew mark of 1:59.2 for Gerard Kennedy. The six-year-old stallion, owned by Stephanie Rich, picked up his eighth lifetime win, finishing 11 lengths ahead of Princetown Jory, with Libertys Gig finishing third.

Other winners on the card included: Ritas Xample for Kevin Bailey in 2:04.1, Gimme Some money for Richie Baryluk in 2:05.3, J Jetstar for John Willie Beaton in 2:02.4, Loch Monster for Bob Wadden Jr. in 2:01.4, Snowbound for Jamie Struthers in 2:04, and Grandtacul­ar for Russell Macdonald in 2:02.4, edging out Panda Bear and Tymal Torrance.

Racing action returns to Northside Downs this coming Saturday, followed by a holiday Monday card on Aug. 3. Post time for both events is 1 p.m.
