Willena Marie ‘ Lena’ Sheppard, age 73 of Victoria Mines passed away on Saturday, July 25, 2015, at the New Waterford Hospital, with her loving family by her side.

Born in New Waterford, Willena was a very humble and selfless woman.

She enjoyed all the simple things in life; berry picking, crossword puzzles, reading, etc. In earlier years, Lena was known as Willena Romard from the Quality Store in New Waterford. Later on she was employed at the Woolco Store, Sydney. After the birth of her children, Willena enjoyed being a stay-at-home mom. She spent many hours at the local rinks watching her boys play hockey.

Willena is survived by her loving husband, Jim Sheppard, one daughter, Carol Ann (Manny), two sons, Mark (Nancy), Blair (Kim), two brothers, Frank, Lauchie, four sisters, Ann, Shirley, Dorothy, Mary, and five grandchild­ren, Breanna, Hannah, Lauren, Gianna and Darian.

Willena was predecease­d by her father, William Romard, sister, Annie Margaret, aunts, Annie Romard, Maggie Rose Fitzpatric­k, Josie Chiasson, grandparen­ts, Medric and Nellie Romard (Deveaux), and stepgrandf­ather, Peter Deveaux.

There will be no visitation. Cremation has taken place under the direction of V.J. McGillivra­y Funeral Home, 380 Smith St., New Waterford. The funeral mass, officiated by Rev. Ray Huntley, is Wednesday at 10 a.m. in St. Leonard Church followed by a reception in St. Leonard Hall.

Donations may be made to palliative care.
