SMITH, Mary Elizabeth (Weatherbee)

Glace Bay

-

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Mary Elizabeth ( Weatherbee) Smith on March 23, 2016 after a brief illness at the age of 61.

She was the loving wife of 41 years to the love of her life John Smith.

Amazing mother to her two loving sons Kyle (Amy), Edmonton, and Keegan (Angela), Fort McMurray, of who she was so proud.

She also was the proud and loving grandmother of her grandson Cohen, her pride and Joy.

She was the daughter of the late Charles William and Charlotte (Hardy) Weatherbee.

In her early years Mary worked at Co-Op Building Supplies but after marrying John moved to Glace Bay and worked at Scotia Bank until her retirement a few years ago.

Mary loved to travel, play a good game of cards, went to lunch with the retirees once a month, but her passion was singing.

She belonged to several singing groups and always sang in the choir at St. Mary’s Anglican Church.

She had a very powerful voice and captivated audiences with her solos.

Mary was a very friendly, loving, giving and compassionate person.

She made many wonderful friends over her lifetime as our family saw during her illness with her friends coming and sitting at the hospital with her, talking and singing to her. We are so grateful to them. Mary loved spending time with everyone and could be counted on for anything as she showed when her close friend Kelly was sick and Mary was with her every step of the way.

And also with her volunteer work for the Heart & Stroke Foundation, Vince Ryan tournament and the Terry Fox Run.

She found good in everyone she met and was loved by everyone.

Mary will also be missed by her sisters Nancy (Vince) MacNeil; and June (Leo) Popwell; brothers Bill ( Jackie), and Robin; sister-in-law Caroline Morrison; aunts, many nieces, nephews and cousins.

Besides her parents Mary was predeceased by her in-laws Viola (Mom) and Reginald (Dad) Smith, whom she loved dearly, a brother Allan in infancy, a brother-in-law Sibley Smith, and special friends Norma and Kelly.

Cremation has taken place and a celebration of Mary’s life will take place at St. Mary’s Anglican Church, Glace Bay at a later date.
