SCHMID, John Norbert
Sydney
It is with great sadness that the family announce the passing of John Norbert Schmid on March 21, 2016, at Dartmouth General Hospital, with his loving wife Corinne at his side.
John was born in Sydney June 7,1944, the son of the late George and Henrietta (Tobin) Schmid. He graduated from Sydney Academy, St. Xavier University and TUNS as an architectural and environmental designer. His career with contract work was varied and very interesting from studying the effects of workers in isolation in Labrador to working as a liaison and supervisor when building high rises in Calgary for The Chandler Kennedy Architectural Group of New York.
John’s passion was art and he was an accomplished artist painting in oil and acrylic. He sold his work in painting, photography and sculpture at local shows and shops. He shared his love of fine food, wine, art, renovating older homes and travel with his wife of 12 years.
John is survived by his wife, Corinne (MacDonald); her daughters, Kara (Peter Campbell), Amy LeMoine (Daniel Morrison), Meaghan LeMoine (Shane Ballard); as well as grandchildren, Adam, Reg and Grace Campbell, Johnny LeMoine and Everett Ballard. He was a much-loved brother of George (Elaine) Schmid, Theresa Brenner of Ontario and Walburga ( John) Belliveau of British Columbia. He was much loved by his nephews, George Colin Schmid and Michael Belliveau and nieces, Cindy Hunt, Helen Brenner, Anita Fisher and Shiloh Belliveau. His trips to visit his first cousins Hans Peter, Bernard and Rita in Germany will also be missed by them. John will be especially missed by his sister-in-law, Glenda and brother-in-law, Daniel McKeough, with whom many holidays and celebrations were spent.
John served many years as treasurer, director and historian of his beloved C.B. Canoe and Geographical Society. They will raise a tribute to him in their own way.
John had a wide circle of close friends who will truly miss him.
A celebration of John’s life will take place Friday, April 1, at 4 p.m. at United Heritage Church, 500 Charlotte St. with Rev. Rosemary Godin officiating.
Family flowers only please and if one wishes an act of kindness or donation to your favourite charity can be made in his memory.
“It’s a blessed thing to love and be loved in return.”
