Police search for woman suspect in convenience store thefts

- BY CAPE BRETON POST STAFF

Cape Breton Regional Police have arrested one woman and continue to search for a second suspect involved in four thefts of cash involving convenience stores and gas stations.

The first incident occurred Sunday at approximately 10 p.m. at the Needs store on Commercial Street in Dominion.

Police were told that two females entered the store asking for change of $100. As the store employee was making change, the pair grabbed all of the money and fled the scene in a white truck.

The following day, police responded to three more incidents during which employees described the exact same scenario.

The locations targeted by the thieves include Sobey’s Fast Fuel on Prince Street in Sydney, Dragon Flys and Dreams on Maple Street in Sydney, and Petro-Canada on Grand Lake Road in Sydney.

The only difference in the other three incidents is that police were told the suspects fled in a taxi.

A police spokesperson said Wednesday there is no indication the taxi drivers were involved in the thefts. No injuries were reported in any of the crimes.

One of the females is now in police custody, although charges have yet to be formally filed.

A second suspect is being sought and is described as five feet and seven inches tall, with a medium build, light complexion, brownish/red hair and brown eyes. Police are being aided in their investigation by video surveillance at some of the outlets.

Police ask that anyone with information about these crimes to contact 563-5151 or anonymously through Crime Stoppers at 902-562-8477.
