Youth charged with attempted murder

A 17-year-old Northside youth has been charged with attempted murder in connection with a car/pedestrian collision Monday in North Sydney.

The youth, whose name is banned from publicatio­n in accordance with the Youth Criminal Justice Act, is also charged with assault with a weapon, dangerous driving, mischief (property damage) and uttering a threat.

After a youth court appearance this week, the male was released on a host of conditions including he stay away from a Clifford Street address, a Sydney law firm and two individual­s.

He is also to be under a 24/7 curfew with exceptions for medical emergencie­s and if he is in the company of his father or grandfathe­r. The youth is also prohibited from being in the front seat of any vehicle, at any time, for any reason.

He is now scheduled to return to court Aug. 10 to enter pleas.

Charges have also been filed against a 25-year-old man who is believed to be the intended target of the youth.

The exact charges were not immediatel­y available Friday as the informatio­n is not yet filed with the court.

The incident occurred Monday on Clifford Street. Shortly after 10:30 p.m. Cape Breton Regional Police report being advised a 25-year-old male was struck by a vehicle after he allegedly confronted the people in the vehicle.

The vehicle, driven by the 17-year-old, also collided into a residence on Clifford Street.

The driver was arrested at the scene, while the man who was struck was later located and arrested after fleeing the scene.

The police investigat­ion is continuing.
