The 42nd annual Bartown Festival gets underway July 16 with the much-anticipated parade at 6:30 p.m. followed by the kickoff party.

This year’s festival sees the return of popular events such as the doll carriage and bicycle parade, prince and princess tea, superhero day, urban art competition, pet show and more.

New additions to the list of events include a road race, the Great Tartan Ramble, a square dance and laser tag.

Traditionally the parade was held mid-week during the festival. This year’s parade will kick off the festival celebrations.

The festival also showcases local artists Back in Time, The Road Kings, Scottie and the Boys, Freight Train and and All Fired Up & Friends.

“I encourage everyone to check out this year’s Bartown Festival. There’s something on the schedule for everyone from young to old,” said Andrew Skinner-Ryan, event director. “We’re also showcasing a selection of great local entertainment which is sure to appeal to all.”

Festival brochures are available in many locations throughout the region.

Beginning in 1974, the North Sydney Bartown Festival’s focus has been to bring the community together in a celebration of history, culture and festivity.

The festival’s aim is to feature an array of events that appeal to community and family alike and highlight the vibrant and unique aspects of the Northside community.

The Bartown Festival Community Society, a nonprofit group, seeks support from corporate sponsors and businesses, and organizes community fundraising events to fund the annual festival.
