CARROLL, Edward Aloysius

-

It is with profound sadness that we, the family, announce the passing of our loving husband, father, grandfather, brother, uncle and friend, Edward Carroll. Eddie, age 83, passed away peacefully with his loving family by his side, July 7, 2016, at the Cove Guest Home, Sydney, where he had been a resident for the past two years.

The family would like to express their sincere appreciation and gratitude to the Cove Guest Home for the wonderful care and compassion they provided Eddie during his stay.

Born in Glace Bay, he was the son of the late Thomas Nicholas and Mary Catherine (Fury) Carroll. He was a longtime resident of Fraser Street, Glace Bay, and was a former member of St. Anne’s Church, Glace Bay and St. Joseph’s Church, Reserve Mines.

In his early years, Eddie worked at his father’s grocery stores, T.N. Carroll’s, in Glace Bay and Bridgeport, delivering grocery orders with a horse and wagon. He later moved to Toronto and began his 39 year career with Massey Ferguson as a blueprint engraver. Upon his retirement, Eddie’s first order of operation was to move him and his wife Mary back to Glace Bay.

In his leisure time, while living in Toronto and Glace Bay, he enjoyed golfing and bowling – Eddie was a member at several golf clubs and numerous bowling leagues over the years. He had a great sense of humour and was always very quick to respond with a witty joke.

Eddie will be sadly missed by his loving wife of 59 years, Mary (Andrews); daughter, Brenda, Toronto; sons, Robert (Lena), Brampton; Kevin (Saoirse) Toronto; his three cherished grandsons, Ryan, Brandon, Oisin and his sister, Rosella (Steve) Hogan, Glace Bay.

Besides his parents, he was also predeceased by sisters, May, Dorothy, Carmella; brothers, Allister, Bernard and Michael.

Visitation for Eddie will be held Sunday, July, 10, 2016 from 4-8 p.m., at VJ McGillivray Funeral Home, 16 Reserve St., Glace Bay.

A funeral mass will be celebrated 11 a.m. Monday, July 11, 2016 in St. Joseph’s Church, Reserve Mines, with Fr. Daniel Boudreau officiating.

Interment will be in the parish cemetery. A luncheon will follow in the church hall.

Donations in Eddie’s memory may be made to the Alzheimer’s Society or to the Cove Guest Home.

Online condolences to the family are available through www.vjmcgillivray.ca.
