BATTSON, Marlene Joan

-

Marlene Joan Battson, 51, of Lower Sackville, completed her journey here on earth on Friday, July 8, 2016. She died peacefully, surrounded by family and friends.

Born in Glace Bay, N.S., on July 7, 1965, she was the daughter of Lionel and the late Shannon Parsons. She is survived by Michael, her husband of 21 years and daughters Elise and Abigail. She is also survived by her father Lionel Parsons, sister Colette (Bill) Smith, brother Trevor (Gretchen) Parsons, nephew Jonathan Smith, niece Chrissy Smith and her father-in-law and mother-inlaw Mike and Denise Battson. Her absence will also be felt by family pets Chloe and Lilly.

Her life was dedicated to her girls and her husband. She spoiled them with home cooked meals, the most delicious chocolate chip cookies and her time and attention. She loved to travel and as a family they enjoyed vacations to beautiful locations, including Mexico, as well as locally to Green Bay and home to Cape Breton.

Marlene was a graduate of St Michael’s High School in Glace Bay, St. Francis Xavier University and Sydney City School of Nursing. She loved her profession of nursing and was passionate about her work at the Nova Scotia Rehab Centre. Her work family and her patients will miss her kindness and compassion. She was an excellent educator and a dedicated professional.

Being from Cape Breton and enjoying a life with many cousins who were raised like siblings, and aunts and uncles who influenced her upbringing, Marlene will be missed by many. She truly was “raised by a village.” Their love and support has been unwavering.

We wish to thank the staff of 5A at the Centennial Building for their exceptional care in the last week of her life, as well treasured family physician Diane D’Arcy.
