It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Honora ‘Nora’ (Chisholm) Brothers.

Surrounded by her loving family and holding the hand of her husband Stanley, Nora passed away peacefully at home on July 23, 2016.

Nora was the daughter of the late John and Kate (Ferguson) Chisholm of Sydney, N.S. and was predeceased by her brothers, Frank, Joseph and John Chisholm.

She is survived by her husband of 61 years, Stan and their seven children, Paula (Ed LeBlanc), Claudia (David Hughes), Michele (Bob Higdon), Clare (Joe Currie), Stephen (Mei Xie), Monique (Tony Forbes) and Brendan (Lorena Sullivan Brothers). Nora was also survived by her loving grandchildren, Michael, Matthew, Justin, Kate, Neil, Genevieve, Sarah, Philip, Morgan, Joseph, Caroline, Emily, Maggie, Aidan and Rowan as well as five great-grandchildren, Jayna, Emma, Elaina, Seth and Zoey. Nora was also survived by her sister, Marguerite (Arthur) Higgins; sister-in-law, Claire (Joe) Chisholm; a number of nieces and nephews whom she loved dearly as well as a close group of wonderful friends and neighbours.

Nora was a proud graduate of Holy Angels High School and went on to complete a diploma in business. Nora was a woman of great faith, in 1974; she along with other women from her parish founded the St. Joseph’s Catholic Women’s League chapter in North Sydney of which she was a member for 42 years.

‘Nonie’ or ‘Nanu’, as she was lovingly called by her family, was a dedicated wife and mother who along with Dad raised us in a very loving home. She stressed the value of education and supported us in everything we did. The loss we feel is immense.

Visitation for Nora will take place at W.J. Dooley Funeral Home, 107 Pleasant St., North Sydney on Tuesday, July 26 from 2-4 p.m. and 7-9 p.m.

A funeral mass will be celebrated on Wednesday, July 27, at 10 a.m. at St. Joseph Church in North Sydney with Rev. Patrick O’Neill officiating.

Interment to follow in the family plot at Holy Cross Cemetery, North Sydney.
