It’s the last week of August and that can only mean one thing — the start of school is just around the corner.

As students and parents prepare to get back into their school year routines, we checked out exactly when everyone will be headed back to class.

In the Cape Breton-Victoria Regional School Board, the first day of school for students is Sept. 8. Teachers will return Sept. 6 for an orientation day, which will be followed by a professional learning day Sept. 7.

In the Strait Regional School board, the first day of classes is Sept. 7. Staff will return the day before for their orientation day.

In a release, Strait board officials note that any changes to bus routes will be communicated to students and parents but it is expected that several days may be required for students and bus drivers to become fully accustomed to their routes. In the Conseil Scolaire Acadien Provinicial system, the first day of class for kindergarten to Grade 12 students is Sept. 8. Teachers return Sept. 6 for a professional development day, followed by an orientation day Sept. 7.

Students at Maupeltuewey Kina’matno’kuom School in Membertou return to class Sept. 8.

At Cape Breton University, frosh week begins Sept. 4 and continues until Sept. 11. Classes for CBU all students will begin Sept. 12. Frosh week activities at CBU include barbecues, games, a beach day, a scavenger hunt, socials, an open mic night, trivia night, the home openers of the CBU men’s and women’s soccer teams, and a concert featuring Pretty Archie and Jordan Musycsyn.

At CBU residences, first-year students move in Sept. 4, while returning students move in Sept. 8.

At Nova Scotia Community College campuses, the fall semester starts Sept. 6. And at NSCC’s Marconi campus in Sydney an orientation carnival is planned for Sept. 6-9. Events include a barbecue, social and carnival games.
